Le trame della cultura nei cieli di Kibera

The project aims to cast a glance at the future, hence the children, the major resource of the population. Therefore the spaces are devoted to culture and socialization. The school premises are the core around which the whole system is organized. The idea encompasses a bold gesture of ar- chitecture which might become the reference point to the people of Kibera. The project doesn’t blend into the context, on the contrary, it ts well having its own formal identity. The proposal seems to be both extreme and delicate at the same time. Three high woven wood ele- ments stand out, not closing but inserting into the slum respectfully. The central square links to the commercial axis and to the stream through a web of green areas, reconnecting the di erent parts of the slum, in order to improve its environmental quality and health. The idea is to enhance empty spaces as much as possible, in a context where every spot available has been taken by makeshift facilities. The project aims at letting the children grow giving them space.
